- What are stink bugs?
Stink bugs are part of the group of pests known as fall pests. Stink bugs are easily recognizable because of the triangular shaped plate on their backs, which is why they are often called "Shield bugs." These pests got their name from their ability to emit a foul smell from small glands located on their thorax when they feel threatened or are squished. Adult stink bugs are less than 1 inch long, approximately 17mm, and are almost as wide as they are long. They are typically different shades of brown on their upper and lower bodies, but can have patches of coppery or bluish-metallic on their head and pronotum.

Stink bugs are primarily considered a nuisance pest as they make their way indoors during the cooler, fall months in search of a cozy place to spend the winter. They are attracted to the warm, sunny side of buildings and will find access to the inside of homes and other buildings utilizing cracks and crevices around windows and doors, under siding and other areas. Stink bugs may also be a problem in the early spring when they become active again.
- Are they dangerous?
Stink bugs are not a threat to people or pets, nor do they reproduce indoors. They can, however cause significant damage to agricultural crops as they feed on fruits, vegetables and other farm crops.
